These two small holes allow the plug to keep more firmly in place. A raised section inside a normal electrical outlet usually fits exactly into these holes, ensuring that the plug’s prongs make greater contact with the metal strips inside the socket.

Securing the plug promotes steady contact with the power source. These round holes also keep minors from messing with the outlet, exposing them to risk.

Many round-pronged plugs may not fit securely into outlets, leaving a portion of the prong exposed, which can be dangerous for tiny children. Therefore, it is advisable to use flat-pronged plugs with holes if you have little children.
