If you want to make your hair darker without using strong chemicals, you can create a natural hair dye at home with only three simple ingredients. This plant-based coloring will make your hair dark and healthy.
List of ingredients:
Henna Powder: 100 grams (use more for longer hair)
Indigo Powder: 100 grams (same as henna amount)
Amla Powder: 2 tablespoons (if desired, for extra conditioning and a cooler color)
Directions:
1. Get the henna ready.
Prepare Henna Paste: In a bowl, mix the henna powder with warm water until you get a smooth paste without lumps. The texture should be like yogurt.
Allow it to rest: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and leave the henna mixture for 6-8 hours or overnight. This helps the color to become stronger and brighter by letting the dye come out.
2. Make the Indigo Blend
Prepare the indigo mixture after letting the henna rest. In another bowl, combine the indigo powder with warm water until you get a thick paste. Indigo should be mixed just before using it because it becomes less effective if it is left sitting.
If you have amla powder, you can add it to the indigo paste if you want. Amla helps to soften the color of the dye and also nourishes the hair.
3. Put together and use.
Mix the indigo paste with the henna paste that you have prepared. Mix well until both are fully combined.
Use the dye: Put on gloves and spread the paste evenly on your hair from the roots to the ends. Ensure that all parts are included, especially if you want to achieve a consistent black shade.
Cover your hair with plastic wrap or a shower cap after applying the dye to keep it moist and warm, which will help the dye work better. Keep the hair dye on for 2 to 4 hours.
4. Wash with water and apply conditioner.
Rinse well: After waiting the necessary time, wash your hair with water until the water is clear. Don’t wash your hair with shampoo for the first 1-2 days after coloring it so the color can fully develop and stay in your hair.
Tip: After washing your hair, you can use a conditioner to make it softer.
Advantages of the Ingredients: Henna: Henna is a natural dye made from plants that makes hair stronger, adds shine, and can provide a reddish-brown color.
Indigo powder comes from a plant and is mixed with henna to make a very dark black color.
Amla powder contains a lot of vitamin C and antioxidants. It helps make hair healthier and can remove red tones from henna, resulting in a darker black color.
Advice for achieving the best outcomes:
Strand Test: Always do a small test on a strand of hair before coloring your whole head. This lets you see the final color and change the amount of ingredients if needed.
