Creamy Chicken and Sausage Fettuccine with Mushrooms

Ingredients:

For the Pasta:

. 12 ounces fettuccine
. Salt for pasta water

For the Sauce:

. 2 tablespoons olive oil
. 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
. 12 ounces Italian sausage, casings removed and crumbled
. 1 large onion, finely chopped
. 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
. 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced (cremini or button mushrooms work well)
. 1 cup chicken broth
. 1 cup heavy cream
. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
. 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
. Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
. 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
. 1/2 teaspoon dried basil (optional)
