The researchers noted that you should never turn off your car while you’re in traffic, waiting for a traffic light, or stopped at a highway rest area. That’s because the car’s engine should be running for more than 10 seconds.
This advice will certainly not please some citizens, accustomed to knowing that the longer a car is driven, the more it consumes.
In reality, this is not really the case. In fact, when the car stops and then starts again, it can consume much more gasoline. This is why it is advisable to leave the car idling, without turning it off.
Researchers found that Americans spend an average of 16 minutes a day idling their cars.
