Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prep
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean, dry mixing bowl, add egg whites and cream of tartar.
- Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until soft peaks form.
Step 2: Whip the Meringue
- Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat the egg whites.
- Increase to high speed and beat until stiff peaks form (this should take about 5-7 minutes).
- Mix in vanilla extract and cotton candy flavoring.
- If using food coloring, gently fold in a few drops for a swirl effect.
Step 3: Shape and Bake
- Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag and pipe small cloud-like dollops onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 1.5-2 hours, or until the bites are crisp on the outside but still light inside.
- Turn off the oven and let the bites cool inside with the door slightly open.
Step 4: Decorate and Serve
- Once cooled, sprinkle with edible glitter, add cotton candy pieces, or dust with pastel sugar.
- Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for later enjoyment.
