Step 3: Bake

Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cupcakes cool completely before frosting.

Step 4: Prepare the Glow-in-the-Dark Frosting

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well.
  3. Add tonic water and vanilla extract, continuing to mix until smooth. (The quinine in the tonic water is what makes it glow under a blacklight!)
  4. If desired, mix in neon food coloring to enhance the glowing effect.

Step 5: Decorate

  1. Pipe the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes using a piping bag.
  2. Add edible glitter, sprinkles, or other decorations as desired.
  3. Place the cupcakes under a blacklight and watch them glow!

Tips & Tricks

  • Maximize the Glow: Use only tonic water with quinine, as this is what makes the frosting glow under a UV light.
  • Flavors & Variations: Want a chocolate version? Swap 1/3 cup of flour for cocoa powder.
  • Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Make It Vegan: Substitute dairy-free butter, plant-based milk, and an egg replacer for a fully vegan option.
