How can I remove moisture from my car? 9 effective tips!

5) Ventilate the car to reduce humidity

A house is ventilated daily all year round. But ventilation is also very important for the car on a daily basis. If you can’t ventilate, use a  humidity sensor to keep it running for better efficiency . This type of car dehumidifier is available in three types: condensation dehumidifiers, those with a fan and a honeycomb wheel, or those equipped with hygroscopic calcium chloride salt and equipped with a reservoir.

6) Change the cabin filter

Changing the pollen filter in the passenger compartment

This pollen filter tends to get dirty quickly. However, this part is important because dirt on the filter can  prevent air from circulating freely , leaving the field open to increased humidity. Therefore, it should be changed at least once a year to ensure its effectiveness. You can take advantage of your vehicle’s oil change to change the filter. In addition, this part is generally inexpensive and once changed, it is better for your health!

7) Check the door seals

Temperature fluctuations and thunderstorms put a strain on door and trunk seals. The rubber loses  its waterproofing over time  and allows moisture to pass through. So, remember to make sure they’re in good condition and aren’t too porous if you’re having problems with moisture in your vehicle. You can also use a suitable sealant to keep your seals flexible and efficient. And while you’re checking the seals are in good condition, also check that your roof is still properly sealed. This can also play a role!

8) Keep the heating working

Car, Air Conditioning, Heating

When the car heater breaks down, we tend not to worry and think we can fix this problem later. The problem is that the moisture could be coming from a leak in the heating circuit (with some unusual smells along the way!). So it’s important to take good care of it. To make sure it’s working properly, you can turn on the heating and windshield ventilation. If the heat exchanger fogs up, this could be a sign that your  heat exchanger is damaged . Also, don’t forget to look at the ground. If it’s wet, wipe off the liquid with a paper towel and check its color. If the water is stained, this also indicates that the heat exchanger needs to be replaced. This part is not expensive, but a bit  difficult to change yourself . So seek professional advice (Feu vert, Norauto, Speedy, etc.) to make the exchange a success.
