Urine contains ammonia and bacteria which, when stagnant, give off a persistent odor .
Why is bicarbonate effective?
- It neutralizes the acids responsible for bad odors.
- It absorbs moisture and prevents bacteria from growing.
How to use it?
- In the toilet bowl : Sprinkle 2 to 3 tablespoons (about 50 g) of bicarbonate, leave to act for 10 minutes , scrub with the brush and flush.
- On the floor and joints : Sprinkle a tablespoon of bicarbonate around the toilet, leave to act for a few hours , then vacuum or clean with lukewarm water.
- As a room deodorizer : Place a cup of baking soda in a corner of the toilet to continuously absorb odors .
Bonus tip : For an even more powerful clean, add a glass (about 200 ml) of white vinegar on top of the baking soda before scrubbing!
White vinegar: a very effective disinfectant
Why is white vinegar effective?
White vinegar is one of the best natural cleaners :
- It destroys odor-causing bacteria.
- It dissolves limescale and encrusted urine deposits.
How to use it?
- In the toilet bowl : Pour a glass (about 200 ml) of white vinegar , leave to act for 15 minutes , rub and flush.
- As a disinfectant spray : Mix 150 ml of water and 100 ml of white vinegar in a spray bottle , spray on surfaces and wipe.
- On the floor : Wash the tiles and joints with a mixture of white vinegar and hot water to remove urine residue .
Bonus tip : Add a few drops of lemon essential oil for a more pleasant smell !
Essential oils: a touch of freshness
Essential oils don’t just provide fragrance : they also have antibacterial properties !
Which essential oils to choose?
- Lavender : Soothing and antibacterial.
- Eucalyptus : Purifying and refreshing.

How to use them?
- In a diffuser : half a teaspoon is enough for a fresh atmosphere .
