How to Clean Your Toilet with Baking Soda
Preparation: Start by gathering your supplies. You’ll need:
1 cup of baking soda
1-2 cups of vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar works best)
A toilet brush
Optional: A few drops of essential oil (like lemon or lavender) for a fresh scent
Pour Baking Soda: Pour about 1 cup of baking soda directly into the toilet bowl, making sure it covers the sides and the bottom. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow it to work on the stains and grime.
Add Vinegar: Next, add 1 to 2 cups of vinegar to the bowl. You’ll notice some fizzing – that’s a sign the reaction is working. The combination of baking soda and vinegar helps break down mineral deposits, stains, and bacteria. Let it sit for around 10-15 minutes.
Scrub Away: Using a toilet brush, scrub the sides of the toilet bowl, focusing on any stains or build-up. The baking soda acts as a gentle abrasive, so it won’t scratch the surface but will effectively clean the toilet. Pay extra attention to the rim, where grime often builds up.
Flush: After scrubbing, flush the toilet to rinse away the mixture. You’ll be left with a sparkling clean toilet bowl, free of stains and odors.
Optional Extra Shine: For an extra shine, you can sprinkle a little more baking soda on the inside of the toilet rim, use a cloth to wipe around the seat and outer surfaces, and then finish by buffing with a dry towel or microfiber cloth.
