Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface. Cut it into small squares or rectangles, about 2-3 inches (5-7 cm) in size, depending on the shape you prefer.
Cut the Camembert: Slice the Camembert into small chunks or thin wedges that will fit in the center of each puff pastry square.
Assemble the Appetizers:
Place a piece of Camembert in the center of each puff pastry square.
(Optional) Add a small sprig of fresh thyme on top of the cheese for an aromatic touch.
If you’re using prosciutto or bacon, fold a small piece and place it over the cheese.
Egg Wash: Beat the egg and brush the edges of each puff pastry square with the egg wash. This will give them a golden, glossy finish when baked.
Bake: Place the puff pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and puffed up.
Finish: Once the puff pastry appetizers are out of the oven, drizzle a tiny bit of honey over the top (if you like the sweet-salty combo), and sprinkle with a pinch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper for extra flavor.
Serve: Serve the warm Camembert puff pastry bites as a delicious appetizer. They pair wonderfully with a glass of white wine or sparkling water!
