Warning signs to watch for
1. Sudden weakness or numbness
One of the most common warning signs of an impending stroke is sudden weakness or numbness, usually on one side of the body. This can occur in the face, arm, or leg. If you experience sudden weakness or numbness, especially if it is on one side, seek medical attention immediately.
2. Difficulty speaking or understanding the language
Difficulty speaking is another warning sign of a stroke. You may have difficulty speaking or understanding others. In some cases, people may not be able to speak at all. Any sudden change in speech should prompt a visit to the emergency room.
3. Vision problems
Vision problems such as blurred or double vision can also indicate an impending stroke. You may suddenly have vision problems in one or both eyes. Don’t dismiss these changes as simple eye strain; they could be a warning sign of something much more serious.
