Materials needed for your DIY antenna
To pull off this trick, you’ll need a few items you probably already have at home:
2 empty drink cans (clean and unlabeled)
A metal hanger
Adhesive tape
A coaxial cable (SDI type or similar)
Crocodile clips and terminals
Insulating tape
A plug to connect the antenna to the TV
These elements, which seem trivial at first glance, will be the key to your high-performance and ecological antenna.
Simple steps to design your antenna
Prepare the cans
Make sure they are perfectly clean and empty. Remove any residue and labels to maximize their effectiveness.
Create the main structure
Straighten the wire hanger or bend it into a “T” shape. Securely tape the two cans at each end. These cans will act as
and signal sensors.
Using pliers, make a small cut in the cable to expose the metal braid. Twist this braid and release the inner wire without damaging it.
Connect the terminals
Attach one terminal to the inner wire and the other to the metal braid. Secure each connection with electrical tape to prevent short circuits.
Attach the terminals to the tabs on the cans
The tabs on the cans will act as contact points to improve signal capture. Attach the crocodile clips to them.
Where to place your antenna for best results?
Position your antenna near a window or in a high spot, such as a shelf or attic. This will ensure a stronger, more stable signal. Connect the cable to your TV, run a channel scan, and adjust the antenna if necessary.
