Instructions:

  1. Brown the Meat & Veggies: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add oil if needed, then cook the ground beef, bell pepper, and onion (and fresh garlic, if using) until the meat is fully browned. Break up any large chunks with a spoon. Drain excess grease.

  2. Simmer the Sauce: Reduce heat to low. Stir in water, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and garlic powder (if using). Cook for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

  3. Toast the Bread: While the meat simmers, preheat the broiler. Toast Texas Toast until golden.

  4. Add Cheese: Place 1 slice of cheese on each toast and broil for 30 seconds until melted.

  5. Assemble & Melt: Spoon the beef mixture over the cheesy toast, then top with another slice of cheese. Broil again until the cheese is bubbly.

  6. Serve Hot: Enjoy immediately while warm and gooey!

Note: Texas Toast is thick-cut bread, often sold frozen (plain or garlic flavor). If unavailable, slice a loaf into 1-inch-thick pieces and use those instead.
