Back pain while driving a car
Try a heated seat cushion
Heat reduces pain by reducing the constriction of narrowed blood vessels. Heat helps increase blood flow to your back. Therefore, heated car seats may help relax tight muscles, reduce muscle spasms and relieve joint stiffness.
Some car seats feature a massage feature, which can provide more comfort to get rid of annoying back pain.
Wear comfortable shoes
Some types of shoes, such as slippers or high-heeled shoes, may not only hinder you from driving safely. It can even cause you to feel lower back pain. Shoes with the wrong size and high-heeled shoes change the usual sitting position. This means that preset seat adjustments won’t work as comfortably as you would with a suitable shoe or flat.
The safest shoes you can wear are sneakers or other shoes that provide stability. Padded shoes, such as running shoes, can help absorb vibration from the pedals.
Keep a painkiller ointment in your car
Local pain treatments can help relieve back pain while driving and feel some rest. You can get one of these balms from the pharmacy without a prescription. These ointments may provide a feeling of numbness or coldness, which helps relieve pain.
In addition, some creams contain ingredients such as cannabidiol, capsaicin, and arnica, which help reduce swelling, muscle pain and stiffness. Other creams also contain menthol, which acts as an anti-inflammatory. Therefore, if you have severe or chronic back pain, talk to your doctor about using an analgesic ointment such as Voltaren Gel, or other well-known analgesic ointments.
Try a back pain patch
Many people with back pain are comfortable using a back pain patch instead of soothing ointments and creams. Sticking this adhesive to the back can help provide long rest.
Thermal patches relieve back pain like a portable heating pad. It contains some substances such as iron powder, which activates when exposed to air. Thermal patches may also provide greater pain relief and reduce muscle tension in the back muscles.
You can buy thermal patches from pharmacies, most of which are dispensed without any prescription. These patches provide long hours of comfort and pain relief, making them useful on long trips.
Use cruise control
Cruise control is not an option during peak hours or on slippery, winding or unsafe roads. When you can do this safely, using cruise control may help reduce back pain by enabling you to change the position of your leg.
When your vehicle is in cruise control, place both feet on the ground with your knees bent. Put your weight evenly on both feet. This will help relieve pressure on your back.
Stop a lot on long trips
Taking frequent breaks is one of the best things you can do while traveling long distances. Walking, stretching and movement reduce stiffness, tension and muscle tension, which may help reduce back pain and prevent it from worsening. If you can find a rest zone, try stretching to relieve back pain before you resume your journey.
Prolonged sitting can worsen swelling in the lower extremities. If you have edema, walking may reduce fluid buildup in your ankles, feet and legs. This may negatively affect the back.
