- Remember to scrub the area between your fingers and under your nails, which are usually where bacteria tend to hide [4] .
- It’s also a good idea to clean anything that has come into contact with toilet water with a disinfectant.

Method 2
Clean the object with disinfectant products
-
Use disinfectant wipes or spray. Get a strong disinfectant to kill any bacteria on the item. If it has a smooth, even surface, you can rub it thoroughly with disinfectant wipes. If it is porous or has an uneven surface, spray the disinfectant to spread the product so it reaches all sides [5] .
- You can use products like Lysoform®, Clorox® for bathroom and many others without risk of damaging the object in question [6] .
- You can also use disinfectant wipes to clean everything from toys to jewelry to sunglasses. Spray products are better for items like hairbrushes and clothes that can’t be machine washed.
- Try using a disinfectant that doesn’t contain bleach as an active ingredient. In fact, bleach can corrode or discolor some materials.
-
Clean all exposed parts of the item. When applying the disinfectant, be sure to treat as much of the surface of the item you retrieved from the toilet bowl as possible. Bacteria can remain in cracks and hard-to-reach areas. If you don’t remove them completely, they will continue to reproduce and may even cause illness. To avoid danger, repeat the cleaning as often as necessary until everything is truly clean [7] .continued on the next page
