At first glance, the quick wash program of washing machines and dishwashers may seem environmentally friendly. However, in many cases it is better not to do it.

When you see the title “Quick wash program”, you might think that it would be more environmentally friendly than a regular wash program because of its short duration – just like a quick shower. However, this is misleading: with short running times, energy consumption usually increases. The detergent cannot work effectively in this short time, so the washing machine has to heat the water very quickly. Water consumption is also often higher.

This means that quick rinse programs, both for the washing machine and the dishwasher, are usually not cheap:

• They use more water
• They consume more electricity

Therefore, they are expensive and harmful to the environment.
